Hessen Delegation Visits Wisconsin

The Wisconsin-Hessen Association was happy to participate in events for a Hessen delegation that visited Wisconsin in May 4-6, 2023.

The delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus, Hessen’s Minister for Digital Strategy and Innovation. The 16-person delegation was composed of representatives of every political party in the Hessen state legislature plus other government officials and several board members of the Hessen-Wisconsin Friendship Society. Multiple delegation members had traveled to Wisconsin in the past, but for a few its was their first time in the state.

The purpose of the visit was to to celebrate and strengthen Hessen’s historic, cultural and business ties to its sister-state of Wisconsin and explore new opportunities for digital cooperation. As Hessen’s first minister for digitalization, Sinemus is charged with building partnerships to use technology and digital processes to improve everyday life. Digitalization includes things such as digital infrastructure, health care, digitalization of rural areas, digital literacy, e-government and smart cities.

The group had the opportunity to expand upon past discussions as well as to meet new players in Wisconsin's digitalization field, including:

  • A tour and discussion of the Co-Working Space at StartingBlock and the Start-UpAccelerator Gener8tor in Madison

  • A discussion and tour of the virtual reality teaching and learning center at Madison College

  • A meeting with the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery

  • Meetings with Epic Systems and Millipore Sigma

  • A meeting with the Hessen-Wisconsin Society board of directors

The delegation’s itinerary also included:

  • A visit to the State Capitol for a meeting with Governor Evers

  • A separate meeting with state legislators, including Assembly Speaker Representative Robin Vos (R), Senator Dianne Hesselbein (D), Representative Mike Bare (D), and Representative Tyler August (R)

  • A meeting at the offices of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC)

  • A roundtable discussion with board members of the Hessen - Wisconsin - Society

  • A reception with additional business and cultural leaders at Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA)

At the reception at MMoCA Oliver Bouchse, a member of the Hessen - Wisconsin Society board presented a poem crafted with AI on a dialog of friendship in the style of the great Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Wisconsin's first poet laureate, Ellen Kort. You can read the poem in last month's blog post - https://www.hessenwisconsin.com.
